Set against the backdrop of Brisbane Water, this project focused on creating a dedicated gathering space that feels both functional and connected to the landscape. A custom curved hardwood bench wraps around a corten steel fire pit, establishing a natural focal point for entertaining while complementing the character of the surrounding timber deck and compacted decomposed granite base. The sweeping form softens the transition between the home and the expansive lawn beyond, creating a space that encourages conversation, relaxation and year-round outdoor living.
Surrounding the fire pit, layered planting introduces texture, movement and seasonal interest while maintaining uninterrupted views to the water. A mix of architectural foliage and soft ornamental grasses was selected to suit the coastal environment and provide a low-maintenance garden that will continue to mature over time. The result is a simple yet highly considered outdoor room that balances craftsmanship, comfort and connection to place.
